GBTI, Diamond Branch, in collaboration with the Guyana Tennis Association hosted its 8 thAnnual Tennis Camp from July 22 to July 26 at its Diamond Tennis Court.

This year saw a total of 70 participants, the highest in the history of the event. Most of the participants were children between ages 5 and 16 years while the remainder were young adults, all, from the Diamond and surrounding East Bank Communities.

The tennis court was filled with fun and excitement as the participants, both new and seasoned, took advantage of learning the basics of the skill or enhancing their tennis skills.

Andre Erskine of the Diamond Tennis Club facilitated the 5-day camp. “He has been the facilitating coach for the programme for the past three years and his patience and dedication is admirable,” said Roxanne Welcome-Europe, Branch Manager, GBTI Diamond Branch.

By the end of the five-day camp the participants were in competition mode. They competed in five categories, Red ball, Orange ball, Green ball, Yellow ball and the adult category.

The following were the results:

Each participant was awarded a certificate of participation while the winners received trophies along with their certificates.

GBTI’s Brand Ambassador Sarah Klautky, herself a tennis player, graced the venue with her presence and even held a session with the younger category.

According to Ms. Welcome-Europe, in addition to the Bank making its tennis facility available as a goodwill gesture to the community, it also encourages healthy lifestyles and extended gratitude to the parents and children for being part of the camp.

She assured of the Bank’s commitment to the event being held annually.

Vice President of the GTA Cristy Campbell took the opportunity to express thanks to GBTI for its continued support and collaboration with the GTA and providing a platform for the development of tennis in Guyana.

Each one of GBTI’s 12 Branches across the country is engaged in community activities as a means of giving back to the communities in which we exist and also providing for their particular needs.
